Reuben and Gad wanted this ground east of the Jordan for their herds because it was good cattle land, and it is usually identified with Beth-nimrah.
Nimrah was a well-watered site east of the Jordan that the tribes of Reuben and Gad requested as pastureland for their large herds because of its suitability for cattle (Numbers 32:1-3). It is usually identified with Beth-nimrah, mentioned a few verses later as one of the towns Gad rebuilt (Numbers 32:36), and its name survives in the modern Wadi Nimrin near the Jordan.
