Pharaoh is the Egyptian royal title used throughout the Old Testament for a series of different, usually unnamed, kings, not one individual, spanning from the pharaoh who made Joseph second-in-command to the pharaoh who enslaved the Israelites centuries later and the pharaoh Moses confronted during the exodus. Egyptian records independently confirm many of the events and periods these unnamed pharaohs presided over, even though Egyptian royal inscriptions, understandably, never record embarrassing defeats like the exodus plagues.
