Pharaoh Hophra, known to history as Apries, ruled Egypt from about 589 to 570 BC and briefly supported King Zedekiah of Judah's revolt against Babylon before withdrawing, leaving Jerusalem to fall in 586 BC. Jeremiah predicted that Hophra, like Zedekiah, would be handed over to his enemies (Jeremiah 44:30); Egyptian records confirm he was overthrown in a civil war led by his general Amasis and later killed, a case where a specific biblical prophecy about a named foreign king's downfall is corroborated by that king's own country's records.
