Pharpar was one of the two rivers of Damascus, named by Naaman alongside the Abana when he objected to washing in the Jordan instead (2 Kings 5:12). It is usually identified with the Nahr al-Awaj, which flows through the district south of Damascus before emptying into a marsh east of the city.
