First, in plain English

Aaron's grandson, Eleazar's son. When Israel was being struck by a plague for idolatry and sexual sin with Moabite women, Phinehas drove a spear through an Israelite man and a Midianite woman together, and the plague stopped.

Who this is

Phinehas was Aaron's grandson and Eleazar's son, and he ended a plague God had sent on Israel for their idolatry and sexual immorality with Moabite women by personally spearing an Israelite man and a Midianite woman together in the act, a zeal God rewarded with a covenant of permanent priesthood for his descendants. A different Phinehas was one of Eli's corrupt sons, killed in battle the same day the Ark of the Covenant was captured by the Philistines.
