Puah (Woman living at the time of Egypt and Wilderness)
Pharaoh ordered her and Shiphrah, two Hebrew midwives, to kill the Israelite baby boys at birth. They feared God more than Pharaoh, let the boys live, and God rewarded them for it.

Puah was one of two Hebrew midwives, along with Shiphrah, whom Pharaoh ordered to kill Israelite baby boys at birth during Israel's slavery in Egypt. The two women feared God rather than Pharaoh, let the boys live, and were rewarded with households of their own (Exod. 1:15-21), making their quiet refusal one of the earliest acts of civil disobedience recorded in the Bible.
