Who this is

Punon was a wilderness station on Israel's route, between Zalmonah and Oboth (Num. 33:42-43). It is identified with Phaeno, mentioned by early Christian writers as a site of Roman-era copper mines, and modern excavations at Khirbet Feinan in southern Jordan have confirmed intensive copper mining and smelting there going back millennia before the Roman period, making it one of the largest ancient metal-production sites in the region.
