Rechabam, an Israelite king

Who this is

Rehoboam was Solomon's son and successor, and his reign began with a catastrophic miscalculation: when the northern tribes asked him to lighten the heavy labor Solomon had imposed, he rejected his older advisors' counsel and threatened even harsher treatment, provoking ten of Israel's twelve tribes to break away and form a separate kingdom under Jeroboam. The kingdom he was left with, Judah, was invaded a few years later by the Egyptian pharaoh Shishak, who stripped the temple of its treasures, an episode Shishak also recorded on his own temple wall at Karnak in Egypt.
