Who this is

Rufus was the son of Simon of Cyrene, the man compelled to carry Jesus' cross to Golgotha; Mark names him alongside his brother Alexander as someone his original readers would recognize (Mark 15:21). Paul later greets a Rufus in Rome and calls his mother a mother to him as well, which many take to be the same family, since Mark's Gospel is traditionally linked to the Roman church (Romans 16:13).
