Who this is

Sardis was the wealthy capital of ancient Lydia in western Asia Minor, famous in earlier centuries as the seat of King Croesus and a center of gold refining. It received one of the seven letters in Revelation, rebuked for having a reputation for life while being spiritually dead (Revelation 3:1-6). Decades of excavation at the site have uncovered one of the largest ancient synagogues known and a massive temple of Artemis, confirming the city's real prominence in the Roman period.
