Sela-hammalekoth, "the rock of divisions" or "rock of escape," was a cliff in the wilderness of Maon where Saul and David's forces circled opposite sides of a mountain, Saul closing in until a messenger arrived warning of a Philistine raid and forced him to break off the chase (1 Samuel 23:24-28). The name commemorates that narrow escape. Its exact location in the rugged country south of Hebron is unknown.
