Shiloah (Siloam)
Isaiah set the quiet waters of Shiloah, a gentle channel bringing water from the Gihon spring into Jerusalem, against the flood of the Euphrates. The people had turned down the one, and the other was coming. It was later linked with the pool of Siloam.

The "waters of Shiloah," a gently flowing channel carrying water from the Gihon spring into Jerusalem, later linked with the pool of Siloam (Isaiah 8:6). Isaiah contrasts its quiet flow with the overwhelming flood of the Euphrates as an image of trusting God rather than seeking help from Assyria. The city's ancient water system that this name refers to is documented archaeologically by Hezekiah's Siloam Tunnel and the Hebrew inscription its diggers left inside it, discovered in 1880.
