A son of Issachar, and the Shimronites took their name from him.
Shimron is a name shared by a place and a person in the Old Testament. It names a son of Issachar who gave his name to the clan of the Shimronites (Genesis 46:13; Numbers 26:24; 1 Chronicles 7:1), and, unrelated in origin, a royal Canaanite city whose king joined Jabin of Hazor's coalition against Joshua at the Waters of Merom (Joshua 11:1-2) before being allotted to Zebulun (Joshua 19:15); the city is generally identified with a site near the northern edge of the Jezreel Valley a few miles west of Nazareth.
