The same name traced across the biblical canon and the Second Temple texts, side by side.

Tahtim-hodshi (Kadesh)

It turns up once, on Joab's census route east of the Jordan, somewhere north of Gilead. The Hebrew is hard to read here, and many think it is a garbled reference to the Hittites of Kadesh and not a town at all.

Who this is

Tahtim-hodshi appears only in the account of Joab's census route east of the Jordan, somewhere north of Gilead (2 Sam. 24:6). The Hebrew text is difficult, and many scholars think the phrase is a corruption of a reference to the Hittites of Kadesh, pointing to the Hittite center on the Orontes river rather than naming a distinct town.
