Who this is

Thomas was one of the twelve apostles, remembered chiefly for refusing to believe the other disciples' report that Jesus had risen until he could see and touch the wounds himself, earning him the label doubting Thomas ever since. When Jesus did appear and offered his hands and side, Thomas's response was the flattest declaration of Jesus's divinity in any Gospel, my Lord and my God, and Jesus's gentle reply blessed everyone who would believe without that kind of proof. Tradition holds Thomas carried the gospel as far as India, where an ancient Christian community still traces its founding to him.
