Fact Book

The same name traced across the biblical canon and the Second Temple texts, side by side.

Vedan

Ezekiel lists it among Tyre's trading partners, next to Javan, bringing wrought iron, cassia and calamus. The Hebrew is hard here, and some read Vedan, a place in Arabia, rather than Dan.

Who this is

A trading partner of Tyre named alongside Javan in Ezekiel's taunt song against the city, supplying wrought iron, cassia, and calamus in exchange for Tyrian goods (Ezek. 27:19). The Hebrew text is difficult at this point, and some scholars read the name as Vedan, an Arabian place, rather than the tribe or territory of Dan.
