Who this is

Zalmon names both a person and a place. The wooded hill of Zalmon, near Shechem, supplied the brushwood Abimelech's men used to burn down the tower of Shechem (Judges 9:48), and Psalm 68 pictures snow falling on this same dark, shaded mountain. Separately, Zalmon the Ahohite was one of David's mighty warriors, also called Ilai in the parallel list in Chronicles (2 Samuel 23:28; 1 Chronicles 11:29).
