Zarthan, also spelled Zaretan, was a place in the Jordan Valley near Succoth, in an area of dense clay soil suited for metalworking. The Jordan's waters are said to have piled up near Zarthan when Israel crossed on dry ground (Joshua 3:16), and centuries later Solomon's bronze temple furnishings were cast in molds in the clay ground between Succoth and Zarthan (1 Kings 7:46). Its exact site in the plain is uncertain, though it is sometimes linked to Tell es-Sa'idiyeh.
