Zipporah was Moses's wife, a daughter of the Midianite priest Jethro, and in a strange episode on the way back to Egypt she circumcised their son herself and touched Moses with the foreskin to avert what Scripture describes only as the Lord seeking to kill him, an act that saved his life.
