Zoar was a small town near the Dead Sea, originally called Bela, to which Lot and his daughters fled for refuge when Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed; Lot had asked that the town be spared because of its small size, and it was. Isaiah and Jeremiah both mention Zoar in oracles concerning Moab, since it lay near the border between Moab and the Dead Sea plain.
