Joshua 11:21-22

Joshua 11:21-22, in every translation this tool compares.

First, in plain English

The real question: why does one specific group get its own separate wrap-up, naming exactly where its survivors ended up? A report on a completed evacuation that adds “except for a few families who relocated to three named towns” is setting something up for later: that kind of specificity is a promise, not filler. Naming exactly where the last of the Anakim went reads the same way: a loose thread, left for later. This card reads that loose thread as pointing straight at Goliath.

The problem

The narrator gives the Anakim their own summary statement, separate from the general conquest account, and then names exactly where survivors remain.

What this reading resolves

A targeted objective explains the separate summary and sets up Goliath of Gath without anyone having to reach for it later.

What it still does not

The chapter never says why the Anakim rate their own paragraph. The reason is imported from Numbers 13.

Where Walton splits from Heiser

Walton reads the conquest account as recapitulating order over chaos rather than as a campaign against a bloodline, and takes the destruction language as ordinary ancient war rhetoric. Two coherent readings of the same chapter, and the difference is method, not piety.
