First, in plain English

The real question: does “nothing compares to you” only work if there's something real in the room to compare against? “Best goalkeeper in the world” only means something if other goalkeepers exist. Call yourself unmatched in an empty room and the word does no work. The praise here runs on that same logic: actual rivals in the room, all of them outclassed. This card takes the “holy ones” as a real company of divine beings, not poetic flourish.

The problem

The psalm proves God's uniqueness by comparing Him to others. A comparison to nothing proves nothing.

What this reading resolves

The company of divine beings makes the argument work as written. Incomparability among peers is a stronger claim than solitude.

What it still does not

The psalm never describes what the holy ones actually do beyond standing in the comparison. It does not tell you whether they have any agency of their own, the way the council does in Job or 1 Kings 22, or exist here purely as a rhetorical foil for God's uniqueness.

The phrase

Verse 6 reads bene elim, sons of the gods, a third variation on the same construction.
