Is It Actually in the Bible?

Phrases people quote as Scripture. The real verse, or the honest answer that there is not one.

"Interpreting of dreams… and dissolving of doubts" (Daniel 5:12) sounds like Daniel's specialty was talking people out of their uncertainty.

In Daniel 5:12, 'doubts' means difficult riddles or knotty problems, not feelings of uncertainty to be reassured away.

What is actually going on

The queen tells King Belshazzar that Daniel has "an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding, interpreting of dreams, and shewing of hard sentences, and dissolving of doubts." In the underlying Aramaic, the sense is close to "untying knots": solving genuinely difficult problems or enigmas, which is exactly why Daniel is the one summoned to decode the mysterious handwriting on the wall.

Modern "doubt" is almost entirely about mental uncertainty or disbelief, so a reader today pictures Daniel as a kind of counselor who eases anxious feelings, when the text is really describing him as a code-breaker and riddle-solver.
