preach the gospel to every creature: sounds like a command to evangelize animals
In 1611, "creature" meant anything created: here it means every human being, not an animal.
Mark 16:15, in every translation this tool compares.
In the Great Commission of Mark 16:15, Jesus says, "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." Modern English has narrowed "creature" down to animals, or worse, monsters. But the word simply comes from "created thing": anything God made. In this command it refers to every human being on earth, not beasts of the field. The same broad, "everything God made" sense shows up in Romans 8:19-22, where Paul says "the creature was made subject to vanity" and will one day be "delivered from the bondage of corruption": meaning creation itself, not a cast of animals.
