The 144,000 Are a Literal Census of Ethnic Jewish Believers, 12,000 From Each Tribe
Heiser reads the 144,000 as a real Jewish-Christian group sealed for protection, but they're not the entire company of the redeemed, and 'not defiled with women' almost certainly isn't a literal virginity requirement.
Revelation 7:1-8, in every translation this tool compares.
Heiser actually reads Revelation 7:1-8 as "thoroughly Jewish/OT" (a census, tribal lists, and a sealing pattern lifted from Ezekiel 9) and treats the 144,000 named again in Revelation 14 as the same group: Jewish followers of Jesus, sealed with the name of the Lamb and the Father on their foreheads. He's careful to distinguish the faith category ("Christian") from the ethnic one ("Jew"): so the "ethnic Jewish" half of the popular claim isn't something he rejects.
What Heiser does correct is the assumption, common in groups like Jehovah's Witnesses, that the 144,000 represent the total number of the saved. Revelation 7:9 immediately follows with "a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages": a separate, uncountable group. Reading Revelation 7 as Jews-only for the whole redeemed company is treated as a mistake; the saved remnant across the book is Jew plus Gentile, and John elsewhere freely applies Israel's "kingdom of priests" language (Exodus 19:6) to the whole church (Rev 1:6; 5:10; 20:6).
The other popular detail (Revelation 14:4's "these are the ones who have not defiled themselves with women, for they are virgins") doesn't get a clean, settled answer from Heiser. The standard pre-battle-abstinence reading (from Numbers) is called a weak fit since that kind of abstinence was always temporary. The alternative floated is that the language sets the 144,000 up as a priestly counterpart to the Watchers of Genesis 6 (men who did not do what the "sons of God" did) rather than a literal chastity rule. That's offered as a live possibility, not a conclusion.
