Is It Actually in the Bible?

Phrases people quote as Scripture. The real verse, or the honest answer that there is not one.

"The end of the world" (Matthew 13:39) sounds like the destruction of the planet.

"World" here translates the Greek aion, meaning "age" or era, not the physical earth (kosmos) coming to an end.

Matthew 13:39

Matthew 13:39, in every translation this tool compares.

What is actually going on

Greek distinguishes aion (an age or span of time) from kosmos (the world of people or space). Matthew 13:39 uses aion, which is why virtually every modern translation renders the phrase "the end of the age" rather than "the end of the world."

The KJV translators rendered aion as "world" dozens of times, which imports the modern, planetary sense of "world" into a phrase that was originally about a period of time closing, not the cosmos being destroyed.
