Revelation 14:1-5, the Lamb and the 144,000 on Mount Zion
The Lamb stands on Mount Zion with 144,000 who bear his name and his Father's on their foreheads, singing a new song only they can learn. They have kept themselves pure, follow the Lamb wherever he goes, and are offered as firstfruits to God and the Lamb.
Revelation 14:1-5, in every translation this tool compares.
In contrast to the beast and its marked followers, John sees the Lamb on Mount Zion with the 144,000, who carry the names of the Lamb and his Father instead. Heaven resounds with music, and they sing a song only they can learn. They are described as pure and truthful, loyal followers of the Lamb, offered to God as the first of the harvest. Who the 144,000 are, and what their virginity stands for, are debated.

Mount Zion, the temple mount and loosely Jerusalem, lay mostly in ruins after AD 70 but was promised restoration (the cultural backgrounds notes; Keener); the Zondervan dictionary reads it as where Christ will stand at his return. The Lamb's name against the beast's mark is a stark contrast (Keener; Wright), and the numbers contrast too: "Whereas 666 is a doubly triangular number, 144 is a square number" (the cultural backgrounds notes). Their virginity suggests holy-war purity, when soldiers kept from women (1 Samuel 21:5; Deuteronomy 23:9-11), or priestly purity (the cultural backgrounds notes; Keener); Heiser, against Aune and Bauckham, finds holy war a weak fit, since soldiers abstained but were not virgins. Firstfruits went to God (Exodus 23:19) and promised more (Wright; Keener; the ESV Study Bible). The 144,000 are read as the church as Israel renewed (Wright and Bird), new Jerusalemites (the cultural backgrounds notes), Jewish believers in a future tribulation (dispensationalists, in the ESV Study Bible), or, for Heiser, in his Revelation 7 episode and his question-and-answer episodes, Jewish followers of Jesus. His Reversing Hermon reads them as a reversal of the Watchers' sin; the podcast says it "has more explanatory power" but may not be right.
