Acts 17:26-27
Paul tells the Areopagus that God fixed the times and the boundaries of the nations.
Acts 17:26-27, in every translation this tool compares.
The real question: is Paul just describing ordinary history, or is he announcing that an actual, standing arrangement over the nations is being cancelled? Announcing “the old lease is up” only lands as news if there really was a lease. Paul tells a pagan crowd that God fixed the nations' boundaries, then pivots straight into an announcement. That only makes sense as news if the boundaries were the real thing, not just a figure of speech. This card reads Paul as announcing the end of that arrangement, not narrating history.
Paul chooses allotment language in front of a pagan audience and then announces that the arrangement is ending.
If the boundaries were an actual assignment, the sermon is an announcement that the assignment is being revoked, which is why he goes straight to the resurrection.
The verse can be read as ordinary providence over history, and on its own it does not force the stronger reading.
