Genesis 11:1-9

Genesis 11:1-9, in every translation this tool compares.

First, in plain English

The real question: why does one tower-building project end with the founding of every nation on earth? Isn't that wildly out of proportion? Grounding one kid for breaking curfew and then reorganizing the entire household's chore chart is a strange response, unless the reorganizing was the actual point and the grounding was only the occasion for it. This story reads the same way once you notice how much bigger the outcome is than the offense. This card reads Babel as the moment the nations were handed off, not a fable about language.

The problem

The punishment for building a tower is the creation of the nations, which reads as disproportionate unless something else is happening.

What this reading resolves

Read as the disinheritance behind Deuteronomy 32, Babel produces the map that the rest of the Old Testament assumes, and Pentecost becomes its answer rather than a coincidence.

What it still does not

Genesis itself never mentions divine beings here. The connection is made by Deuteronomy, not by the Babel account.
